This paper reports on an ongoing research project that\ud is aimed at evaluating how software agents can improve\ud performance of supply chains and networks. To conduct\ud this evaluation, first a framework is developed to classify\ud potential applications of software agents to supply\ud networks. The framework was used in workshop sessions\ud with logistics and information systems experts from\ud industry, software/consultancy and academia to identify\ud promising areas for agents. Based on the framework and\ud the outcome of the workshop sessions, this paper presents\ud promising application areas for the near future and\ud beyond

Assessing transport information systems policies: a framework

    Get PDF
The integration of information and communication services in transport can be a powerful opportunity to achieve a EU or Common Transport Policy. To ensure maximum benefit from these opportunities offered by information and communication services there is a need to create the conditions for adequate and widespread use of these services in transport. To support policy makers in the identification of policy requirements, i.e. necessary policy actions and measures, a policy assessment framework has been developed and applied. The framework is based on a ‘stagist’ model in which the analysis of complex relationships between transport, information technology and policy is split into ten steps. In each step the framework addresses the most important aspects and mechanisms to be taken into account when defining policy for the integration of information and communication services

Challenges for Quality Control in Temperature-Controlled Import Supply Chains

    No full text
Technology provides offline and real-time visibility on the conditions of the cargo in the transport chain and creates opportunities to intervene in the supply chain execution to safeguard the quality of the products. However, end-to-end supply chain solutions to monitor and guarantee real-time product quality are lagging in implementation. The adoption of new end-to-end supply chain solutions and technologies requires a solid definition and understanding of quality and the impact of the supply chain on the loss of quality and its commercial consequences. In this paper, we present an explorative analysis of three cases in which the drivers for quality is linked to supply chain improvements and control and the selection of solutions and technologies
